Hospitality and fellowship at the table

In Scripture, a faithful table makes room for strangers, neighbours and those who cannot repay.

← Bible & Health

Biblical hospitality is not performance. It is love made visible through welcome, attention and shared provision.

Welcome as faith

Biblical principle
  • Abraham welcomes strangers with water, rest and a generous meal.
  • Jesus repeatedly receives and gives hospitality around tables.
  • The early church breaks bread with gladness and practical care.

Beyond reciprocity

Biblical command
  • Jesus says to invite the poor, maimed, lame and blind—people unable to repay.
  • Partiality at a meal contradicts love of neighbour.
  • A simple table offered in love can be more faithful than abundance used for status.

What Scripture says

  • Hospitality is a Christian practice of welcome, generosity and fellowship.

What Scripture does NOT say

  • Hospitality does not require wealth, an impressive home or elaborate food.

Questions to reflect on

  • Who could I welcome without expecting anything back?
