Healing, prayer and medicine

Scripture sets prayer and ordinary care side by side, and promises no one perfect health.

← Bible & Health

This is where false teaching does the most damage. Be careful here, and be kind.

What Scripture shows

  • James 5:14-15 — call the elders, pray, anoint with oil.
  • Luke 10:34 — the Samaritan uses oil and wine on wounds.
  • 1 Timothy 5:23 — Paul gives Timothy practical advice for a recurring ailment.
  • Luke was a physician (Colossians 4:14), and Paul does not rebuke him for it.

What Scripture never says

  • That sickness always means sin or weak faith (see John 9:3).
  • That every believer will be healed in this life.
  • That medicine shows a lack of trust. Paul left Trophimus sick (2 Timothy 4:20), and Epaphroditus nearly died (Philippians 2:27).

This platform's position

Stewardship & health note
  • Pray in faith and seek appropriate medical care; receive both without setting them against each other.
  • Honouring the life God entrusted to you includes qualified care. These lessons offer biblical formation, not diagnosis or treatment.

What Scripture says

  • Prayer for the sick is commanded; ordinary care appears without rebuke.

What Scripture does NOT say

  • No guarantee of healing, and no condemnation of medicine.

Questions to reflect on

  • Who is sick that I could pray for and practically help this week?
