Firstfruits turned harvest into worship. Israel did not merely enjoy provision; the people confessed who gave the land and its increase.
The first belongs to God
Biblical command- Israel brings the first of grain, wine and oil rather than treating the harvest as self-made.
- Deuteronomy 26 joins the basket to a spoken confession of deliverance from Egypt.
- The worshipper rejoices together with Levite and stranger.
Christ and the greater harvest
Biblical principle- The New Testament calls the risen Christ the firstfruits of those who sleep.
- The image moves from agriculture to resurrection hope: the first portion guarantees a greater harvest.
- Gratitude for food can therefore point beyond provision to God's promise of renewal.
What Scripture says
- Firstfruits taught gratitude, dependence and shared rejoicing before God.
What Scripture does NOT say
- The firstfruits laws do not identify one modern percentage or diet as binding on the church.
