Bread

Where it appears in Scripture
From the showbread of the tabernacle to the Lord's Prayer and John 6.
What Scripture says
- Bread strengthens the human heart (Psalm 104:15).
- We are taught to ask God for daily bread.
- Jesus calls himself the bread of life.
What Scripture does NOT say
- Scripture presents bread as daily provision; wheat varieties, gluten and refined flour belong to present-day discernment and health stewardship.
- Ancient bread differed from modern industrial bread; historical comparison may inform wise choices without becoming a biblical command.
New Testament context
Jesus teaches his disciples to ask for daily bread, feeds crowds, calls himself the bread of life and gives bread at the supper in remembrance of him. The ordinary staple becomes a sign of provision, fellowship and Christ's self-giving.
Common misconceptions
- "Biblical bread proves one modern grain or method is sacred." Scripture's focus is provision, remembrance and Christ, not a mandated baking formula.
