Where it appears in Scripture
Leviticus 11:9. Fish appear repeatedly in the Gospels, including the meals Jesus shared after the resurrection.
What Scripture says
- Water creatures with fins and scales may be eaten.
- Jesus ate fish with his disciples (Luke 24; John 21).
What Scripture does NOT say
- Scripture does not recommend fish for heart health or brain function.
New Testament context
Fish is present in Jesus' feeding miracles and resurrection meals. These scenes reveal his provision and bodily resurrection; they do not establish a required Christian menu.
Modern dietary guidance commonly encourages fish a couple of times a week. That is modern advice.
Common misconceptions
- "Jesus ate fish, therefore Christians should eat fish." His meal is a real event, not a universal command.
